The Adventure Pack
Rucksack started off with a small stick today and carried it all the way until we took our midway break for treats. I have everyone sit before anyone gets a treat, and then they each get their treat in the order in which they sat (as long as they stayed sitting). Today's order went: Rucksack, Mogul, Coco, Toskey. Toskey is usually first or second to sit but she was staring off and not really paying attention today. On the way back, he found another stick that was about the same length - about 10" - but much thicker, and he carried that most of the way back until he was distracted by a dead squirrel. He and Coco both stopped in their tracks to sniff it for a moment before I realized what it was and then I quickly unterrupted and had them leave it alone. Toskey and Mogul didn't notice the squirrel as they trotted along side-by-side.
The Play Pack
Maverick has been getting more and more comfortable, however gradually, at the park with all the new dogs. Today, he spent his time wandering around in the crowded area under the shade of the big tree by the park entrance. He sniffed around for a long while in the midst of the other dogs, so I could tell he wasn't bothered by their presence. I got him chasing and batting around a tennis ball for a little while, too, when some of the other dogs cleared out and there was more space around. Benny became interested in the ball after Maverick played with it for a while, but Benny's interest didn't last very long. A short while later, Cooper and Benny had fun wrestling with each other. Cooper kept hopping up and planting his front paws on Benny's shoulders but Benny didn't mind - he just wanted to find a leg or tuft of hair to gnaw on. Mogul spent most of his time accompanied by a small black Pug named Tex, who lives with one of Mogul's other favorite playmates named Oscar. It was very amusing to see Mogul break out his stand-off style of play with such a little dog. They had fun and Tex stuck by his side as he wandered around to sniff out the park.
