The Adventure Pack

The trails were pretty empty today due to the wet snow, but the pack definitely didn't mind it - they love the snow!  Benny had his nose buried in it every chance he got; Rucksack and Coco grabbed up mouthfuls here and there; Mogul had an extra kick in his step and got a little playful with Coco.  Coco's collar popped open during the hike when she was on leash and wanted to run to Mogul up ahead.  She came back to me when I called her and I got it back on but then it happened again just a few minutes later.  The second time, she was far less interested in coming back and instead romped through the snow off-trail.  I eventually coaxed her back with a stick and temporarily traded her collar with Mogul's since I know I can trust Mogul not to pull.

The Play Pack

Benny had lots of fun with two different dogs today: Bruce and King.  Bruce looked like he might be a Shiba-Inu mix and King is a big German Shepherd.  Mogul started off playing with King, who was adept at Mogul's style of play - a complicated dance of spins, pounces, dodges, hip-checks, and long stand-offs.  Coco was apparetnly kind of freaked out seeing her usually docile packmate so animated and she started barking at him.  That prompted Daisy to run over to Coco and start barking at her and nipiing her heels.  Daisy got Coco to run with her a bit while Mogul and King enjoyed each other, but eventually the fun police (Coco) came back over to break things up.  After that, Benny and King played together, which didn't bother Coco at all.  Benny's style of play seems to mostly be a matter of swinging his head around with his mouth wide open and seeing how much of the other dog he can fit in it.
