The Adventure Pack

We had a skunk encounter on the hike this morning!  Halfway through the hike, Wesley and Toskey went running down a hill alongside the trail just up the bend ahead of me.  They went out of sight for a second and I called to them to come back.  Toskey came running back immediately and Wesley came back about 10 seconds behind her.  When Wesley came up to me and sat down, Coco and Rucksack started sniffing him intently and then Coco tried rubbing her shoulder against him.  I pulled her back and that's when the smell hit me.  I'm pretty sure Wesley was the only one who got any on him, but it was hard to tell after being around him for the remainder of the hike; I might have been desensitized to it and not noticed if the other pack members were a little smelly.

In case there was any collateral odor for the other pack members, Wesley's human let me know the recipe that her vet recommended for getting rid of it.  She used this mix to clean Wesley and it apparently worked very well:

1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, about 1 - 5 teaspoons of mild dish soap (she used Mrs. Meyer's brand).

Put on some rubber gloves, mix it all together, bathe them in it, and then be sure to rinse thoroughly.  Also, be very careful not to get it in your dog's eyes.

The Play Pack

All of the pack members were very playful and full of energy today.  Coco and Benny had a lot of fun bowing and dancing around Mable at the park today, and Mable had her own fun chasing the two big puppies around.  Coco and Benny also chased and wrestled with one another while Mable and Brady played together.  Brady made friends with a dog that looked like an Australian Shepherd mix, and ran with him for a while until Coco butted in and got the other dog to wrestle around with her instead.
