The Adventure Pack
Coco and Rucksack did a lot of running together on the trails today. It was a beautiful day and they had lots of energy. I did too, so we made it a good way further up the Third Flatiron than usual. Coco and Rucksack enjoyed exploring the new terrain we covered as they ran and sniffed around well off either side of the trail. On the way back, they passed a stick back and forth that was just barely big enough for them to both get their mouths around it at once.
The Play Pack
The Pack had two new members today – Brady and Mable! Brady is an adorable Laotian and Mable is a cute little Chihuahua. Mable hid under the bed and barked at me when I came to pick her up, apparently forgetting who I was after meeting me last week, so I brought Brady in to lure her out and it worked. Coco and Pico were very excited to meet their new packmates. Brady sniffed them out but wasn’t nearly as wiggly and animated as his new friends. Mable was a little intimidated at first and she sat next to Brady and just sniffed and nosed at him during the ride to the park while Coco play-bowed for her and whined for her attention. At the park, we started by taking a walk around the perimeter and Coco, Brady, and Mable all ran after Pico for a minute. Then I got a tennis ball to throw and Brady and Coco had fun racing each other for it. Brady did a halfway decent job of bringing the ball back, although I had to wait a minute for him to put it down and lose interest in it or else he would just grab it back up and run away with it. Once I picked it back up, his attention was immediately back on me and he and Coco would have another go. Brady had a tennis ball in his mouth for most of the visit. Mable enjoyed jumping on Brady and chewing at his cheeks. She also had some fun with a fluffy black dog who was full of energy. I think Mable got more than she bargained for when she got that dog’s attention, as the black dog (who was something like 20 times her size) was hopping all around her and Mable had to give a few warning nips at the air to let the other dog know to take it down a notch – but even after that Mable kept going back for more. Pico had a great chase back and forth with the same black dog. They ran at high speed and were a great match for one another. Pico seemed notably more comfortable with me when I picked her up today. She’s always been sweet – typically rolling over on her back with her tail wagging to greet me – but she was shy at first and it would take some coaxing to get her to come down from the couch and follow me out. Today, however, she came right along without hesitation and there seemed to be an extra bounce in her step and an extra inch or two to her happy grin.
