Mogul and Rucksack explored some new terrain during today's hike as we ventured up through Chautauqua's Amphitheatre Trail and onto the Saddle Rock Trail headed South. It was a pretty steep hike but they handled it with ease, which is better than I can say for myself. While we were headed down, Mogul went off the trail and disappeared for a minute. I called to him but he didn't come, and I didn't hear his tags jangling. As I rounded the bend I realized he had just taken a shortcut; he was standing on the trail ahead waiting for me with a big grin and his head slightly tilted as if to say "What took you so long?"
Coco and Rucksack kept each other very busy at the park. Coco has started to bite Rucksack's tail when she chases him. Rucksack doesn't mind, but as Coco gets bigger I expect that he'll take more notice. For now he just keeps running while Coco tries to get his attention. Mogul was lazy at the park today, although he danced around with another dog for a couple minutes while we made our way to the gate to leave.
I drove by the East Boulder Community Park after dropping off all of the dogs today to see how the construction there is going. It looks like there's still a lot of work to do, so it will be a while before the dogs have the pond there to swim in. At least there are some good shady spots at the Valmont dog park, as we're starting to see some hotter days.
