Adventure Pack
We passed by the same two horses again on the trail today and the pack was still a bit on edge as they went by us. I know Rucksack has a penchant for chasing after deer, and I think the same impulse translates to horses as well. The whole pack practiced coming together and sitting numerous times along the trail today, especially if someone started wandering a bit too far ahead. Everyone's responsiveness to being told to sit has been improving. A couple different passersby commented on how impressed they were with how calm and disciplined Milo, Benny, Coco, Rucksack, and Roger Roger all were as we practiced sitting and waiting by the side of the trail.
Play Pack
We had another new member join the pack today: Stella! Stella is an energetic little 12-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle mix. She was a bit nervous about the packmobile full of big dogs on our way to the park and tried jumping in the front but I returned her to the back with her packmates and she relaxed a bit after realizing that everyone was just lying around. At the park, it didn't take very long for her to loosen up and get playful. Stella and Mama both had fun wiggling around on their backs in the grass, independently of one another. Meanwhile, Yoda found a playmate to run and dodge with while Thompson wandered the park from person to person getting attention. A park regular named Chapman returned today after a summer away and he and Mama had some fun wrestling around. Thompson also enjoyed getting to know Chapman and showed more interest in his new friend than in most other dogs I've seen. Meanwhile, Benny was licking the face of Chapman's dad to welcome him back to the park.
