The Adventure Pack
We hit the trails at Shanahan Ridge today and practiced sticking together as a group while off leash. Yoda tended to wander off ahead, so every now and then we turned around or headed off to the side of the trail after calling him back to show him that he needed to pay attention to stay with the group. A few times, he stubbornly stood and stared for a long while as we headed off the other way, before finally giving in and following. Benny was quick to stop and change direction to stay with me, although he stood in between me and Yoda on a few occassions, trying to decide who to go to. After a long pause, he'd always come to me, which in turn helped get the idea across to Yoda and he'd usually follow behind Benny. Coco stayed on the leash because she really tends to head off on her own and expect the rest of us to follow. I'm hoping that seeing her packmates' example will help improve that habit.
The Play Pack
Mia had a lot of fun with a young Doberman who played keep-away and tug-of-war with her over a rope toy. After the Doberman left, she played with a little pup who jumped all over her annd then later she enjoyed chewing and shaking around an old soccerball. Meanwhile, Oscar was racing all around the park at full speed. He had more energy than I've ever seen him have before - and that's saying a lot! Benny found a couple friends to hop around with, though he got scared and whined when they tried to actually wrestle around a bit - even though they were being playful. Milo seemed to like an old Australian Shepherd. He hung out by him with a smile and a wagging tail, and tried to get him into playing by running by him a few times, but didn't have any luck.
