The Adventure Pack
The pack has been getting very good at sticking together on leash and not trying to pull ahead lately. If things continue to go this smoothly, we'll start trying off-leash priveleges out again next week. Toskey, Coco, Benny, and Rucksack have started sniffing spots out as a pack, with everyone trying to nose in and see what's got their packmates interested. In the past, they'd be much more scattered in their interests.
The Play Pack
Today was the first day for our new packmate Mia! Mia is a 4-month old Golden Retriever fluffball. She was very mellow when I picked her up and her initial greeting with the dogs from the morning's hike was very low-key. When I opened the door, all the dogs crowded around to see who the new pup was. Usually, this overwhelms a new pack member and I proceed to take the dogs out of the car one-by-one to greet and then let the new dog hop back in the car first. Mia was just casually curious about the car full of dogs and hopped up with her front paws to get a better sniff. After a few minutes of saying hello, I helped her climb in and we were off! At the park, Mia found a comfy spot to lie down in the grass while Oscar wandered around and Benny said hello to his friends both human and canine. Later on, Oscar and Mia both chased tennis balls. It took a little teasing to get Mia interested in the ball at first, but then she actually fetched it a couple times! Oscar was plenty interested in the ball the moment he saw it, although his interest in bringing it back to me when I threw it was minimal today. For a little while before we left the park, Oscar ran around with an energetic pup named Scout. Mia saw them playing and joined in and then as we made our way to the gate on the other side of the park, Mia and Oscar started wrestling around with each other and had a great time!
