The Adventure Pack
We practiced on-leash manners again on today's hike. Rucksack has a tendency to anticipate where we're going and always wants to beat everyone there, which causes him to pull ahead on the leash. After about 30 minutes, though, he fell into place at my side and was much better. When we come to a fork in the road, he leans in one direction and looks at me to see if he's right. Coco was snippy when someone we passed reached out to pet her, but later on she was friendly while a few women said hello to the pack and she got her chin scratched. Benny was either having a tough time coming downhill today or he just didn't want to go - it's hard to tell with him. Sometimes, he'll rear back and refuse to walk forward and it seems like he's too tired or sore, but then the moment I let him off the leash he's running around and exploring.
The Play Pack
Sage was a bit less reliable than usual with the ball fetching today. She still spent most of the time doing it, but there were a few times when she just watched the ball I threw and didn't go after it. There weren't any other dogs competing for it, so I'm now sure why she lost interest in it those times. Maybe I just threw it too far for her using the Chuck-It. Oscar has been a bit of a troublemaker lately, charging right up to people at the park as a form of greeting. As a result, I put him on the leash for a while as we walked around the park so I could catch him before he got too riled up. It worked out well, and he was much calmer after. Benny went around between the humans at the park today and got some love.
