The Adventure Pack
It was a hot day on the trails. We started off with everyone sniffing around in different directions and Benny stopping in place every so often. Wesley was apparently feeling sick and vomited a few minutes into the walk, but then seemed like his normal self for the rest of the time. We took a slower pace than usual and lingered in shady spots. Everyone enjoyed a pit stop at the stream by the Gregory Canyon trailhead. Coco crawled under the bridge and lied down. Wesley lied down as soon as he had four feet in the water. Benny and Rucksack preferred to splash around instead.
The Play Pack
Benny was pretty tuckered out after today's hike in the heat, but he did play some half-hearted tug-of war with Oscar over a few different twigs. When he wasn't playing with Benny, Oscar was chasing around various other big dogs. I was giving Maverick a good scratch on his sides and he plopped down, rolled over, and let me scratch his chest with numerous other dogs milling around us. He still gave his patented Maverick grumble when other dogs came over and sniffed too close to his face, but he was surprisingly comfortable. Sage had her first pack outing to the park today and showed me just how much she loves chasing tennis balls. Within five seconds of entering the park, she zeroed in on a tennis ball lying on the ground in the distance and went straight for it. She brought it right over to me and dropped it at my feet, and we proceeded to play fetch for about 40 minutes before she took a brief break to lie down in the shade. She had a few challengers in racing to the ball but came out ahead almost every time - she's quick! A white German Shepherd did beat her to one; So did Lincoln a couple times, and he had been watching me throw the ball more for almost the entire park visit. When Lincoln got it, he would bring it under a picnic table and leave it for later, but then Sage swept in and brought it right back to my feet to throw again.
