The Adventure Pack

Wesley had fun making doggie snow angels in patches of untouched snow off the side of the trail today.  Coco watched with a bit of confusion and whined as if to say "Wesley's being weird, do something!"  Afterward, Benny frolicked around in front of Wesley and got him to chase him up the trail a bit.  Rucksack was particularly in a mood to pull on the leash today and I tried a new method of getting him (and his packmates) to keep his attention on me instead of always staring intently up the trail.  Every so often, I tossed a treat at the side of the trail and then called the pups and walked over to it.  They all sniffed around until someone found it, and then the others kept sniffing because they didn't realize their packmate had already found the treat.  After the first couple times, they all came over readily and paid attention to where I directed them.

The Play Pack

Maverick wasn't in a particularly social mood today.  After a short round of peek-a-boo with me and Benny around his favorite tree stumps, he just wandered the park - sniffing at the snow, digging a patch here and there, and nibbling off bits of powder.  Benny played with a dog who looked like a Great Dane mix.  They would start running together in big, goofy, splay-legged strides until the other dog made a move toward him and Benny ran away.  The other dog never gave chase beyond their initial dance but they kept going back to each other for a little while.
