The Adventure Pack

Fletcher and Coco wrestled around together a bit in the packmobile this morning on our way to Chautauqua.  Coco tried getting Mogul to play with her during hike by running up to him and then darting away (much like Pico does with other dogs at the park).  Mogul seemed amused by her but he didn't give chase.  Fletcher again spent the hike running up a short bit, turning to face me, waiting for me to catch up, and then running up ahead again. ...

The Adventure Pack

It was seeming like today's hike would be another stick-free expedition, but Rucksack found one he liked in the last leg and then Coco followed suit and found a big, gnarled piece of a branch to carry along a short way.  Wesley and I had a brief encounter with a bee today.  I felt something land on my head and brushed at my hair to get it out; a moment later Wesley was pawing at his mouth.  After a few moments, he stopped and I saw the bee wriggl...

The Adventure Pack

The smoke was hardly noticeable this morning, so the hike was on.  Hopefully the lack of smoke is a good sign for the ongoing firefighting efforts in Fourmile Canyon.  Surprisingly, there was no stick-carrying on today's hike by either Rucksack or Coco.  We hiked partway up the third flatiron.  Mogul was more interested in the water from the Camelbak than usual today; normally he shies away and just laps at it a few times, but today he was g...

The Adventure Pack

The Adventure Pack was cancelled today due to smoke pollution from the fire in Fourmile Canyon.

The Play Pack

The smoke from this morning had largely cleared out by the afternoon so the Play Pack was still on for the day.  Coco and I started off playing fetch, but she wasn't bringing the balls back to me after chasing them down.  After a little bit of that, a Border Collie mix named Captain came over with a ball of ...

The Adventure Pack

Early during today's hike, we came across one of the pack's friends from the dog park - Bella!  Bella is a German Shorthaired Pointer who we see occassionally at the park, and Coco and Rucksack were thrilled to see her.  We crossed paths by the shelter on the Bluebell-Baird trail, so there was plenty of open space for them to run together.

The day's surprise encounters continued at the park when...

The Adventure Pack

At the beginning of today's hike, Wesley growled as we passed by another dog again; but he dropped down into a play-bow as he did it so I think it was just an excited attempt to catch the attention of a potential playmate.  Coco and Rucksack had their usual stick-stealing struggle throughout the hike.  Toward the latter part of the hike, Rucksack found a long (maybe 4') branch to carry.   I knelt down to take a picture of the pack while Coco and ...

The Adventure Pack

Coco and Rucksack started off today's hike with a chase up the trail ahead and back a few times.  Later on, Mogul and Coco had fun running along the trail side-by-side.  I'm not sure whether it was because of the cooler weather and/or the fact that we took a less steep route that went to Koehler Mesa (instead of hiking up the first Flatiron), but Mogul had an extra kick in his step today that was fun to see!

The Adventure Pack

Rucksack and Toskey started today's hike off leash together.  The last couple times they hiked together, they romped around with one another a lot.  Today was a little more mellow.  Toskey wandered around through the brush while Rucksack followed behind, but they were more interested in checking things out than in each other.  There was no stick-carrying by either Rucksack or Coco today, which is unusual.  Wesley was a good boy the whol...

The Adventure Pack

Rucksack has had an interest in acorns lately.  He picked one up as soon as he hopped out of the packmobile today and chewed on it for a bit before I had him drop it.  Usually Coco is the one stealing sticks from Rucksack on the hikes, but today it was Rucksack who stole a big stick out of Coco's mouth.  He had it for a little while before Coco stole it back, and then between the two of them they brought it along for the whole rest of the hike.

The Adventure Pack

We came across a white Siberian Husky on the hike today.  Coco and Rucksack both had fun running up and down the trails with him.  Mogul kept up with me, but he wasn't interested in running with them.  It started raining shortly after we turned to head back.  We all got a bit wet; Mogul, Coco, and Rucksack all paused several times along the way to shake off.
