On our way up the trail the morning, we were swarmed by a group of twenty or thirty kids on a field trip who weren't being very closely supervised.  Sputnik and Benny were thrilled to have the attention, while Mamacita stood calmly in place and sniffed at kids as they pet her.  Milo enjoyed the attention at first and walked right up to the first group of kids that wanted to say hello to him, but he eventually had enough and started wandering off to get so...

Benny and Milo both took their time on the trail this morning.  At one point, they decided just to lie down in the shade of a big tree and watch while Sputnik, Mamacita, and I continued down the trail.  I turned back to see them getting comfortable and I let them have a couple minutes before I called them to rejoin the rest of us and finish making our way back down the mountain.  Check out the pack photos to see the two of them lazing around in the g...

Adventure Pack

We passed a very exuberant black Lab who was pulling at his leash to try to come see as near the trailhead this morning.  The Lab's display elicited a few barks from Oliver, which in turn elicited an anxious growl from Sputnik.  Milo and Benny were completely unperturbed.  Oliver and Sputnik both settled down within two seconds as the Lab passed by and then we continued on to an otherwise totally pleasant hike.

As we were walking up the sidewalk on a side street toward the Chautauqua trails, a dog came charging out of a house and right into the pack.  I pulled the dog off immediately as she came upon us and thankfully Mamacita, Sputnik, Milo, and Thompson weren't hurt and didn't freak out too much.  Sputnik started to react for half of a second but backed off when he saw that I had the other dog under control.  I took a little while to check everyone after ...

Sputnik has continued to behave himself nicely when passing other dogs on the trails lately, even when Milo was whining next to him because he wanted to go see a white Husky that was crossing the trail ahead of us.  Oliver and Benny trotted along together as they usually do.

It was a wet day today and Mamacita, Milo, Benny, and Sputnik all got thoroughly soaked.  Mama wanted to romp, and did her signature move of rearing back and leaping forward to make her intentions known.  Sputnik and Milo took their regular pace and wanted to take time to sniff out points of interest just as usual.  Benny was a little displeased with the circumstances and stopped in place every now and then in protest, but continued along with the pa...

Mamacita and Sputnik were especially interested in lingering at the beginning of the trail to thoroughly sniff through the brush this morning.  Milo and Benny also checked things out, but Mamacita and Sputnik were adamant about hanging out and getting their fill of the scents there.  There were a couple other spots along the way to which they were also strongly drawn.

Benny and Oliver were the greeting committee as we hiked the trails at Chautauqua this morning.  Sputnik again behaved himself very nicely with all of the dogs we passed.  He seems to be settling down from the anxiousness and unfriendliness he had been showing a lot of last month.  Milo and Sputnik both took plenty of opportunities to pee on interesting bushes along the way.

Thompson's shoulder was bothering him so we took an easy pace.  Milo, Mamacita, and Sputnik were fine with taking their time to sniff their way along the trail.  Sputnik has been doing very well with passing dogs lately, even when we've encountered dogs who are very excitable as we did today.

We passed several dogs on the trails this morning.  Benny and Oliver were happy to say hello, while I had Milo and Sputnik on the leash with me and brought them over to the side of the trail.  Sputnik stayed calm even while Milo started whimpering his enthusiasm to go over and greet the passing dogs.
