The Adventure Pack

Coco rejoined the pack from her vacation for today's hike.  She and Benny had some fun running together but Benny's energy didn't last very long and then Coco just trotted up the trail and back by herself.  Wesley and Rucksack were both pretty tired from the heat.  We took a five-minute break in a shady spot to cool off and have some water.  A lot of hikers passed by the pack while we rested and the dogs were happy to say hello.

Sputnik and Rucksack had a great time running in wide circles around Benny, Oliver, and myself early on during today's hike.  Sputnik led as Rucksack chased at his heels.  Shortly afterwards, another hiker warned me that he had seen a bear up one of the trails ahead so I kept everyone on leash for the rest of the hike and headed in the other direction when we reached the top of the Chautauqua trail.  We didn't have any encounters.

Sage and Wesley stuck close by during their turn off-leash today.  We took several breaks in shady spots to keep cool, for which Wesley and Rucksack seemed especially appreciative.  Rucksack really likes his packmate Sage and when it ws his turn off-leash he stayed right behind her instead of wandering off to find sticks like he does most days.  Isaac was instead the one roaming off the trail, following smells and looking for a good stick to carr...

Benny and Rucksack very happily greeted a group of hikers again today, leaning against them and getting lots of love.  Mama and Oliver were cooler than their packmates and stood off to the side, facing the other way and sniffing around at the ground and in the air.

It was cloudy out today but we only got sprinkled on lightly and ocassionally during our hike up the first Flatiron.  Osito was good about walking by my side, though he crowded out his packmates a lot of the time and left them trying to figure out what side of him to walk on.  Wesley did the best job of keeping his place despite his packmates' milling around and tangling their leashes.  One hiker stopped and asked if the dogs were friendly, and B...

Rucksack carried a stick briefly on the trails today but gave up on the extra work pretty quickly.  Isaac, on the other hand, tried to haul an entire downed tree trunk and spent a few minutes at it before finally relenting and grabbing up a more manageable stick to carry for the rest of the hike.  Wesley and Benny were both just interested in moving from shady spot to shady spot as we made our way through the Chautauqua today.  Everyone enjoyed a...

Rucksack was tugging on the leash quite a bit today so he stayed on for the duration of the hike to practice.  Mama didn't growl at anybody on the trails.  Benny discovered some hidden treat off the trail and was very hesitant to leave it when I called him.  Oliver stuck close by and didn't bark at any passing dogs even when one Great Dane was very excitedly trying to pull his human over to us - a situation which usually brings Oliver to alert.

Rucksack was back to his normal stick-hauling routine today.  Wesley trotted along at my heel as usual, stopping to thoroughly greet each other dog we passed along the trails.  Mama walked nicely at my side throughout the hike.  She was pleasant with all the dogs and people we passed except for on one occassion when she growled at a man who was passing by.  I immediately addressed her and she quickly pretended that nothing happened as she co...

It was very gusty out this morning.  I lost my hat but another hiker grabbed it for me.  Benny was the only pack member who seemed at all fazed by the wind and light showers.  He was a bit hesitant to keep going at some points.  Oliver, Rucksack, all seemed perfectly content braving the elements.

It was hot and sunny today and the pack took it easy on the trails.  Osito decided to lie down in the middle of the trail whenever we passed through a particularly shady area and Benny, Rucksack, and Wesley were happy to hang out, too.  Rucksack didn't bother with any sticks.
