The Adventure Pack
There were plenty of smells brought out by yesterday's rain and we made numerous stops along the way for everyone to get a good sniff. Benny was the most nosey of the pack; but Coco, Rucksack, and Mogul all did their fair share of sniffing about, too. I'm not sure what sorts of things they found, but they were apparently very interesting. Most times, when one started sniffing a spot, all of the other pack members came straight over to find out...

The Adventure Pack
Everyone was pretty well soaked just a short way into today's walk. Coco stopped frequently to shake water off - every 5 minutes or so. Benny, Wesley, and Rucksack all shook themselves off as well, though not nearly as much as Coco. None of the pack seemed bothered by the rain, but Benny was definitely bothered by Coco's attempts to get dry. He was walking next to her and every time she paused to shake off, he reared back to avoid gettin...

The Adventure Pack
We took advantage of the overcast weather and walked on the paved paths around and near Wonderland Lake today. It's not very shady there - something I've had to take note of during the hot summer we've had - but that didn't matter on a day like today. Rucksack was raring to go from the beginning. We came across several magpies by the lake that got him, Coco, and Benny all pretty worked up. Oliver was less interested in the birds. T...

The Adventure Pack
Wesley and Rucksack were eager to hop into the Creek when we made a short stop there along our walk. Benny again hung out on the shore and Coco splashed around a bit around the edge. There were no squirrels to get the pack riled up today but it turns out ducks get Wesley pretty excited, too. He and Rucksack both craned their necks to watch them as we walked by the Kids' Fishing Pond where they were paddling.

The Adventure Pack
Everyone got wet when we went down the the bank of the creek today. Mogul and Coco both lied down in the water, facing one another, and then they got playful and started hopping around and chasig each other - although I had to interrupt them because they were still on leash and getting everyone tangled up. Rucksack was eager to get into the water and clearly wanted to go swimming in the middle of the creek. Benny was less enthusiastic about th...

The Adventure Pack
It was nice and cool along the Boulder Creek Path again today. Rucksack found a small stick by the side of the path to carry on our way back. Coco made a few unsuccessful attempts to steal it from him, and for a little while she just chewed on it while Rucksack held it. Coco, Rucksack, and Wesley all enjoyed a dip in the creek. Benny wasn't interested in getting wet. Near the end of our walk, Wesley saw a squirrel and really tensed...

The Adventure Pack
Benny was back to his normal self today and kept up during our walk without stopping behind me a single time. Rucksack could use a bit more practice with walking on-leash. He tends to want to pull ahead throughout the walk until toward the end when he's tired out. Coco walked right alongside Rucksack the whole time and did a good job of staying on a loose leash. Oliver walked next to his big younger brother. He snuck between Benny'...

The Adventure Pack
Coco and Rucksack enjoyed all the sights, sounds, and smells along the Boulder Creek path today. They were especially excited about a raft of ducks that took to paddling in the water as we approached. There were also a pair of squirrels who came hopping down the path toward us, one chasing after the other, and they only veered off into the woods when they were about 2 yards away. Judging by their intense focus on the squirrels, I think Coco an...

The Adventure Pack
Due to the heat and the fact that most of the trails around the Chautauqua have temporary on-leash requirements for dogs because of bear sightings at this time of year, I took Oliver and Rucksack walking along the Boulder Creek Path. The air was cool by the Creek and almost the entire path is shaded throughout. We kept up a pretty quick pace. Rucksack was very interested in all of the new surroundings and his head darted all around to take it in....

The Adventure Pack
Today was a hot day and all the pack members were feeling it. We took water breaks every 15 minutes and Mogul, who usually isn't interested in the water during the hike, gulped it down by the last few breaks we took. Coco enjoyed flopping around on her back in the tall grass today - it's become one of her new favorite activities. Rucksack only managed a small piece of wood as opposed to his usual branches and he only carried it a short way....
