The pack was in a very chill mood today.  Even though the first dog we passed on the trails was a very exciteable young dog who was barking and lunging, and whom the guardian warned me was "not friendly," Coco, Sputnik, Mamacita, and Isaac all stood to the side of the trail with me calmly to let them pass by, without any negative reaction save a very slight curl of Coco's lip for a moment.  We passed a variety of other dogs along the trails today - some c...

The pack encountered a pair of wildly excited dogs that were leaving the trailhead just as we approached, and Coco, Mamacita, and Sputnik all bristled and growled a bit as the other dogs barked and jumped around.  Thompson was completely unfazed by the hubbub.  After the initial reaction, the rest of the pack settled down and sat in place as the other dogs were herded away by their humans, still barking with anxious excitement.  The rest of the hike ...

Monarch had her second outing with the pack this morning.  She was a bit hesitant to hop in the packmobile, but Sputnik and Chelsea greeted her warmly.  Coco kept to herself when her new packmate joined us today.  Once out on the trails, everyone stubbornly wanted to go their own way in pursuit of various smells.  They each went back and forth between different spots, getting a nose full and then checking out what their packmates had found. ...

Thompson was very eager to head out for our hike this morning and rushed up to the car with a bounce in his step.  Sputnik seemed to be wondering where his new friend from yesterday, Monarch, was as he sniffed at my pants and had an expectant wag to his tail as he approached the car; but he'll have to wait until tomorrow to see her.  Coco and Mamacita had a good time hiking along with their packmates and sniffing in the brush.

Adventure Pack

Coco, Sputnik, and Mamacita all spent a good, long time sniffing around in the brush around the trailhead at the outset of our hike this morning. Every few steps, a new smell caught their interests and we hung out until their noses were content. Then we took a few more steps and the noses were back to work again. After that initial interest, the rest of the hike went along without many pauses.

We had a new member join the pack today: Monarch!  Monarch is a very sweet, 3-year-old, female Burnese Mountain Dog.  She got along well with both Sputnik and Coco upon first greetings.  She pulled a bit at the outset of our hike but fell into an easy position at my side before too long.  She, Coco, and Sputnik all thoroughly sniffed out several spots by the side of the trail together, with their noses all pressed together at the epicenter of od...

Adventure Pack

Ruffers joined Mamacita, Coco, and Sputnik on our hike at the Chautauqua this morning.   Coco was excited to have her friend along for the hike and wiggled as they greeted in the car.  Sputnik also was very happy to see her and the two of them gave each other kisses as we drove to the trailhead.  The hike itself was pretty calm.  The weather was great for hiking again: mild temperature, overcast sky, and a gentle breeze.

It was another comfortable day for hiking with beautiful, fall weather.  Thompson and Sputnik both started off by making frequent stops to leave scent marks in the brush alongside the trail.  Coco made some snorty noises as we passed other dogs but didn't really act out.  She vomited a bit a little later, so I think her upset stomach was making her feel a bit ornery.  Mamacita was a happy hiker and trotted along nicely.

Mamacita, Isaac, and Sputnik hiked the Mesa Trail together again this morning and all had a fun time.  The weather was nice and cool, perfect for comfortable hiking.

Isaac, Coco, Mamacita, and Sputnik hiked the Mesa Trail this morning.  We passed a number of dogs along the way, including one little Chihuahua mix who came up to sniff hello.  The pack was all very well mannered today and greeted the little one nicely.
