The Adventure Pack

We took our time on today's hike since everyone was especially interested in the smells to be found along the trails today.  Mogul, Coco, Benny, and Oliver all got a good sniff of every noteworthy stop along the way.  When I didn't pause to let the dogs sniff, Benny was a lot better today about keeping up and not pulling back to smell everying.  Mogul also kept up and didn't lag behind as much as he sometimes does.

We met a few other dogs along the trails today and Wesley was back to his friendly self.  Coco got a bit worked up again when little Oliver barked at a puggle he had just sniffed.  Benny did a much better job of keeping his attention on me when he was on leash, rather than keeping his nose to the ground and following it wherever it took him.  The mud that was on the trails yesterday was all dried up today, so Wesley and Oliver (who both have long...

Benny was back today after being out for a couple weeks following surgery on his eyelids, and Coco was ecstatic to see him.  The two of them get along particularly well, and they love to lean on one another and nose each other and nibble on one another's faces.  Benny is pretty nosey and friendly in general, and gave Toskey a similar treatment when she joined them in the car but Toskey wasn't as interested in the attention and gave a little growl for ...

Coco and Wesley hiked along at a steady pace today and were pretty mellow throughout.  Coco picked up a stick and tossed it around for a little bit.  She's been really into that lately, tossing sticks around instead of just carrying them.  I think she was trying to tease Wesley to try to go for it, but he didn't take the bait.  He was content with just trotting along today and greeting the occasional four-legged hikers we passed.

We met a friendly Husky as we were hiking today.  As we passed, he left a scent mark on a tree and Mogul stopped to sniff.  I guess he liked what he found out about his new acquaintance because when he turned around he had a big grin and he ran past Coco and I with exuberant leaps.  A little while later, we crossed paths with the Husky again as we were taking opposite directions on the same loop, and Mogul was very happy to see his new friend aga...

Coco and Wesley trotted along together in pretty mellow moods throughout today's hike.  They casually greeted a few other dogs we passed and they did a good job of sitting at the side of the trail and ignoring other dogs when I asked them to.  They got several comments on how well behaved they were.  Coco got a little playful toward the end of the hike and had fun tossing a stick around, but Wesley didn't join in.

Wesley and Coco had fun together on today's hike.  Coco taunted Wesley with a stick until he successfully stole it from her.  Then Coco gnawed at it while Wesley stood still with an iron grip on his prize.  Coco eventually gave up and trotted up the trail.  A short while later, when Wesley was walking along beside me and Coco was up ahead a bit, Coco turned around and crouched with her focus on the stick still in Wesley's mouth.  She ra...
