The Adventure Pack

The trails were much busier today than they have been in a while.  Wesley followed along behind me for the whole hike.  Coco, Benny, and Rucksack all spent most of their off-leash time wandering off the trail through the remaining snow.  Coco dug up some good smells from under the snow for her packmates to share in.

Oliver joined for our hike for the first time in weeks, since his normal days out have been too cold and snowy for him.  He stuck close by me, following right behind for the whole hike.  Rucksack rolled in the snow throughout the hike.  When we passed by the pond at the North Fork of Shanahan Ridge he ran straight into it, chest-deep.  Benny, who was also off-leash at the time, was busy sniffing around and didn't join his packmate for a dip....

Wesley rolled around in the snow today.  Rucksack and Sagepreferred to till the snow with their noses, and Sage occasionally flopped down in it.  Meanwhile, Coco had fun leaping and bounding through the snow.  Coco found a spot in the snow that smelled very interesting and in moments the whole pack was pawing at the snow and getting a noseful.  All I saw were some pine needles.

Sputnik, Rucksack, and Benny took turns in pairs to bound through the snow together.  Everyone had plenty of energy to keep going and going for the whole hike.  We had the trails mostly to ourselves, but did come across one pair of friendly dogs who the pack greeted briefly before getting back to their own play.

An icy/snowy rain was in full force as we hit the trails today.  It stuck most to Oso and Rucksack's coats, who were blanketed with it in less than a minute.  The snow didn't gather quite as quickly on Coco and Benny, but they shook themselves off frequently anyway while their packmates were content to let it gather.

A Husky mix came over to say hello to the pack and Wesley went on a breif run with him then rolled around in the snow afterwards.  Benny got worked up seeing Wesley have so much fun and he started play-bowing and hopping around Wesley until he got up and they played for a little bit.  Later on, Rucksack and Coco raced each other all across the snow-covered fields.

Sputnik played keep-away from Rucksack with a small stick he found.  Rucksack eventually got it away from him and then carried it for most of the rest of the hike while Sputnik eyed him jealously.  Benny was happy chomping on snow and left his packmates to their stick.

Coco and Rucksack were both pulling ahead a lot on the trails so we spent the day working on walking politely.  Coco was especially stubborn about trying to get ahead even after being stopped and walked back to my side - slightly behind me - numerous times.  Sage made a good example for her packmates as she followed right along behind me on a loose leash.  We took some breaks for everyone to enjoy the snow, which resulted in buried faces and mout...

Sputnik kept both Rucksack and Benny going on the trails today with lots of romping together in the snow.  At one point, Benny got dusted by snow falling from a tree above him.  He looked at me in confusion and then came running over for reassurance after the deluge subsided.  Minutes later, Rucksack found himself in the midst of his own mini avalanche and he reveled in it.

Isaac and Sputnik had a great time running with one another through the snow today.  They both had plenty of energy to burn and did a great job of keeping each other going.  Rucksack and Benny romped through the snow as well, though they took more breaks to chomp on the snow.
