There was a thin layer of ice over everything today, even coating the mud on the trails.  I carefully made my way up the trail while the pack was mostly unfazed by the slick ice.  Sanaya and Buddy joined Coco and Sputnik for today's outing.  Sputnik was a little unsure of Buddy at first, having only met once before, but by the end of the hike he was licking Buddy's ears incessantly.  Coco found a stick along the trail and threw it around playful...

Adventure Pack

Mamacita saw a a dog who lives on her street when we were hiking at Shanahan Ridge this morning, and she got very worked up.  Unfortunately, she was more about barking and growling than about being happy and playful, and her reaction caused Sputnik to get upset in turn.  We took a pause off the side of the trail to settle down after that, before continuing on our way in a more collected manner.  Rucksack and Coco were both calm throughout.

Rucksack and Coco had some fun chasing each other through the snow during this morning's hike. At one point, they had a standoff around a big bush. They play-bowed and hopped from one side to the other until Coco finally broke and ran for Rucksack. Spuntik and Mamacita were watching intently and both of them leapt when Coco made her move, wishing they could join in on the chase.

Mamacita joined Sputnik and Coco for this morning's hike at Shanahan Ridge. The snow was mostly melted but there are still some mounds and patches scattered around. Sputnik and Mamacita were interested in the scents uncovered by the melted snow and spent a lot of time lingering at spots with their noses to the ground. Sputnik, Clover, and Coco all hiked along pleasantly this morning, while Monarch was feeling a bit more rambunctious. After a few minutes on the trail, she settled into the rhythm with her packmates and only pulled a little bit. She and Sputnik enjoyed drinks from the CamelBak while Coco and Clover opted out. Clover still hasn't taken water from the spout yet, but she has gradually been getting more comfortable with having it brough up to her mouth ...

Isaac joined Coco and Sputnik for our hike at Shanahan Ridge this morning. The pack was eager to get out into the freshly fallen snow and got an immersive introduction to it as a plow had pushed a big pile up in front of the trailhead. We passed several patches of yellow-splattered snow along our route, and Coco and Sputnik were both very scrupulous about attending to them and adding their own contributions.

The trail at CU South was empty so I gave Sputnik and Mamacita both a chance to enjoy themselves off leash with Rucksack and Coco this morning. Sputnik, Rucksack, and Coco all had a blast chasing each other around and wrestling. Sputnik had so much energy that he was keeping both of his packmates entertained. Monarch and Sputnik kicked off the hike with some leaps and dodges with one another again today. They have really hit it off. Coco and Clover were more reserved at the outset and just wanted to trot along the trail, sniff around a bit, and pee. Clover and Monarch eagerly greeted passing dogs during our hike while Sputnik and Coco stayed at the far side of me.

Coco, Mamacita, and Sputnik had a nice hike together at CU South this morning. There were several other packs on the trails and everyone passed by with friendly greetings, save for one occasion when Sputnik got anxious and started to growl while Mamacita and Coco were sniffing hello; however, Sputnik settled down very quickly when I told him to sit, and then he waited patiently until the other dogs continued on.

Sputnik and Monarch wanted to play with each other when we first set out for our hike this afternoon. They made some playful leaps and bows with each other, but couldn't get too into it since they both have to stay on leash. We had a few encounters with other dogs on the trail.
