Leader of the Pack

Coco and Rucksack played tirelessly with one another at the park today.  Toward the end of our park visit, a 4-month old Border Collie puppy showed up that got both of their interest, and they all played together.  Chelsea had some fun with the Border Collie puppy, too.  She would play-bow in front of him, give a growly whine, and then flop over on her side and let the puppy jump on her face and chew at her.  She did it a few times, and every time it was adorable.

Toskey had her first day out with the Adventure Pack today!  She was joined by Coco for our hike.  Toskey liked to run up ahead a bit, anticipating where we were headed, and Coco got tired out following her around and trying to keep up.  Every once in a while I would turn around or head down a different path, because I wanted Toskey to keep in mind that she shouldn't wander off too far ahead.  When she realized I wasn't coming up behind her, she booked it back to me and go...

Mogul and Rucksack hiked together today.  Rucksack continued his tradition of finding a stick to carry along on the hike with us.  Mogul took advantage of an opportunity to get wet when we passed by the creek at Gregory Canyon.  We didn't pass many other dogs on the trails today, besides a couple small dogs on-leash who weren't particularly friendly.

Coco played with Rucksack at the park.  She also found a black lab who played well with her, and she crawl...

Coco was wonderful on the hike this morning.  She comes right to me when I call her, even with distractions like other dogs.  On the occasions when she's hesitant to come, I squat down to her level while I call her and she comes running over to lick my face.  I played hide-and-seek with her by letting her get a little ahead of me on the trail and then ducking behind a nearby rock.  When she noticed I wasn't there anymore she would pause (I heard her tags stop jangling) and...

Rucksack found a stick that was almost too big for him to carry on the hike today, but he managed to bring it along for almost the entire time.  Coco stuck with the pack during the hike, and she and Rucksack romped around in the snow alot.  Mogul was at the lead for the latter part of the hike, after lagging a bit in the beginning.  He seems to prefer the descent.  Rucksack still had the energy to run around with Mogul, and Coco trotted along behind them on her puppy legs,...

Rucksack and Coco had a fun time in the Play Pack today.  Rucksack played keep-away from Coco with a ball I threw for him, and she chased him around for a while.

At one point, Rucksack took a tumble when he was chasing down a ball alongside a couple other dogs, and when he came back with the ball I noticed him limping on his back right leg a bit.  I called him over and sat down with him, and had him relax while I gave his leg a gentle massage.  After a few min...

Coco found a stick to carry around during part of the hike today, although it didn't keep her interest for too long.  She met a lot of dogs along the trails, and played for a while with a 6 month old Australian Shepherd at a picnic/rest area.

Coco and Rucksack saw each other in the packmobile when I picked Rucksack up for the Play Pack before dropping Coco off from the Adventure Pack.  They wrestled around in back non-stop until we got to Coco's home and dropp...

Mogul had a good hike today.  We came across a dog along the trails that Mogul took a liking to and did his spin move for.  At the park, Mogul met a German Shepherd and the two of them hung around together.  They were both more interested in sniffing around than in playing.

Coco and Rucksack wrestled around together in the packmobile again like last week.  The two puppies have lots of playful energy that they can let out with each other, even if Rucksack ...

Coco had her first pack outing today, on the Adventure Pack hike with Rucksack.  The two of them LOVED playing with each other.  I'm coming to expect that Rucksack will find a stick to carry on every hike, as he did again today.  This time it was the biggest of all so far: about 5 feet long!  The rain didn't deter the pack for most of the hike, until I noticed Coco shivering on our return leg.  Young puppies like Coco, with their developing bodies and high surface are...

Rucksack hopped right into the packmobile on the first go this morning, without hesitation.  He and Mogul had a great time together.  The weather was looking pretty bad this morning but the sky started clearing up right when our hike began, and it got nicer and nicer through the morning.  Rucksack found another big stick to carry today, that I again borrowed as a walking stick for part of the hike.  Mogul stole the stick away from Rucksack for a moment, but then immediatel...
